Contact numbers for patients receiving chemotherapy at Bedford Hospital

Please read the enclosed information sheets carefully they provide advice on what to expect from chemotherapy and what to do if you develop a problem. You will have 24 hours access to help and advice for chemotherapy emergencies:-

During working hours Monday to Friday (8.30 – 16.45).

Contact the Primrose Oncology Unit and ask to speak to one of the chemotherapy nurses. Direct number 01234 792 651 or via Bedford Hospital switchboard 01234 355122 ex 2332. Please have the following information available:-

  • Your name and hospital number
  • Your consultants name
  • Where you received your chemo
  • When you received your chemo
  • The symptoms you are experiencing
  • If possible what drugs you received

Depending on your situation, you may be given advice on the telephone, asked to come in to the Primrose unit for a blood test, contact your GP, or be admitted directly to the Acute Admissions Unit (AAU), at Bedford Hospital. 

Outside normal working ours (Including Saturday and Sunday),

If you become unwell or develop a temperature please contact the Acute Admissions Unit (AAU), at Bedford Hospital (Direct line - 01234 795987), for an urgent admission. For all other chemotherapy related problems, please contact D9 ward at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge on (Direct line - 01223 217708/ 217707), to speak to a specialist nurse or oncology ward doctor for advice. 

Dr Howes Patients

If you are a Dr Howes patient, please contact the Primrose Oncology Unit, between the hours of 08:30 to 16:45 on direct line 01234 792651 or via Bedford Hospital switchboard 01234 355122 ext 2332, or contact C10 ward at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge on ( 01223 217255), or as otherwise directed by Dr Howes.
