Bladder cancers symptoms like those of any other organ can present in four
main ways:
[1] Features of local disease.
[2] Features of spread to surrounding or distant areas of the body.
[3] General body problem, eg. weight loss or pain.
[4] Screened or picked up by chance.
Specifically regarding bladder cancer symptoms the most common within these
categories include:-
Local bladder cancer symptoms:
- Blood in the urine (slightly rusty to bright red in colour).
- Frequent urination, or feeling the need to urinate without being able to
do so.
- Pain during urination.
Symptoms of spread:
- Pain - particularly lower back.
- Lumps in the groin or elsewhere
- Ankle swelling
- Breathlessness
- Upper abdominal pain
General symptoms:
- Unexplained weight loss
- Breathlessness
- Weakness and malaise
- Nausea or vomiting
- Confusion
