Bladder cancers symptoms like those of any other organ can present in four main ways:

[1] Features of local disease.

[2] Features of spread to surrounding or distant areas of the body.

[3] General body problem, eg. weight loss or pain.

[4] Screened or picked up by chance.

Specifically regarding bladder cancer symptoms the most common within these categories include:-

Local bladder cancer symptoms:

• Blood in the urine (slightly rusty to bright red in colour).
• Frequent urination, or feeling the need to urinate without being able to do so.
• Pain during urination.

Symptoms of spread:

• Pain - particularly lower back.
• Lumps in the groin or elsewhere
• Ankle swelling
• Breathlessness
• Upper abdominal pain

General symptoms:

• Unexplained weight loss
• Breathlessness
• Weakness and malaise
• Nausea or vomiting
• Confusion
